Why Tutoring
Tutoring is shown to be highly effective in improving educational outcomes amongst students
Students will likely need additional hours to make up for learning loss which can come through extended school hours, summer school and after-school programs. One such case is a one-to-one tutoring program for middle school students launched by Harvard Kennedy School and Bocconi University professors in Italy at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program matched university volunteers with middle school students for a period of two to three months. They discovered that three hours of online tutoring per week proved to be enough to produce strong and significant effects on students’ performance (+4.7%), well-being (+26%) and socio-emotional skills (+21.1%).
Moreover in the United States, the Tennessee Tutoring Corps (TTC) matched college students who served as tutors for math and reading with students from kindergarten to 6th grade. They discovered students across all grades and subjects performed better on a standardised test after the summer program compared to prior. In addition, tutors noted increased confidence, engagement and conceptual understanding amongst students.
This is why we started Rakan Tutor. We believe that personalised learning in the form of one-to-one tutoring equips students with the skills and confidence to perform better academically whilst giving them the motivation to achieve their fullest potential.
